Firefox Extensions and Greasemonkey Scripts
These are the Firefox extensions and Greasemonkey scripts that I have installed in Firefox 3.
Firefox extensions (add-ons)
- Adblock Plus and Filterset.G Updater
- Greasemonkey (duh)
- QuickProxy: Puts a button in the status bar to toggle between connecting directly and connecting via a proxy. Very handy in conjunction with an SSH SOCKS proxy.
- Mozex: Lets you configure which external programs you want to use e.g. for viewing source code, editing text areas and e-mailing. Currently (Dec 07) you should make sure you use the development version (1.9.5) (direct link to download URL)
(Note: command to use mutt for mailto links:
xfterm4 -e mutt mailto:%A?subject=%S&cc=%C&body=%B)
(not yet in FF 3, but at least for mailto links, you can easily set external apps in the Preferences/ Applications settings. And see next ...) - It's all text: Lets you pick an external editor for text areas. For me, replaces Mozex in FF3.
- Keyconfig: Lets you rebind keyboard shortcuts. For Firefox 2, think I go
it here.
random($foo) kindly tweaked it to work with Firefox 3; download tweaked .xpi - Tab Mix Plus: Several rows of tabs with the current one highlighted, and much more. not yet in FF3
- Tab History: New tabs inherit the history of the opening tab, so the back button does what it should.
- ColorZilla: Quickly pick colors from websites, copy their Hex or RGB values to the clipboard or bookmark them.
- TinyURL
creator: The menu when right-clicking on a page or link now
includes an item that lets you directly create a TinyURL.
No official version for FF3 yet, but inofficial download here. This will get you the .xpi file. To install that, go to about:config and set extensions.hideInstallButton to true, then you'll get an "Install" button in Tools → Addons → Extensions, which will open a file browser where you can find your downloaded .xpi file. - Flashblock: Block all Flash animations by default and instead shows a placeholder with a play button, which allows you to view them if you want to.
- CS Lite: Adds a button to the status bar that lets you quickly set cookie permissions (allow or deny globally, then make exceptions for individual sites, per session or permanently).
- Foxmarks: Synchronize bookmarks between different computers.
Greasemonkey scripts
- GoogleMonkeyR: Give Google search results a makeover. You can get them displayed in different columns, numbered for easy access, remove sponsored links and most importantly get more results autoloaded as you scroll down the results page.
- Google Search Filter: Exclude specific domains from Google Search results
- Google Search Box AccessKey: On any Google search results page, hit Accesskey+s to put the cursor into the search box.
- First text area accesskey: Accesskey+s puts the cursor into the first text area on any page (usually the search box). Works for most pages, though not all (not on Google, hence the need for the Google Search Box AccessKey script).
